“We do not build monasteries. We build people.”

— Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

The mission of Khyentse Foundation is both simple and staggeringly ambitious: to realize the vast and profound aspirations of its founder, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, in order to support and enhance the study and practice of Buddhism throughout the world.

Rinpoche has always said that the Buddha’s teachings should be made readily available to all. By establishing centers of scholastic excellence, training lay and monastic practitioners, funding translations, and making grants available for both practice and study, Khyentse Foundation strives continually toward this goal. Inspired and guided by Rinpoche, the Foundation’s activities focus on securing and stabilizing  the source of this wisdom tradition and shaping its future.

Traditionally, monastic universities (shedras) have maintained the most stringent standards of academic excellence in Buddhist studies. To secure and strengthen this tradition, which trains Buddhist scholars and teachers to serve the world, Khyentse Foundation has created an endowment to support Rinpoche’s monastic colleges in China, India, and Bhutan.
