2015 KF SCHOLARSHIP AND PRACTICE GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINES

May 30th, 2015

KF Buddhist Studies Scholarship and KF Individual Practice Grant Application Period Begins June 15, 2015

The 2015 summer application period for KF Buddhist Studies Scholarship and KF Individual Practice Grant begins June 15, 2015. Applications will be accepted between June 15 and July 15, 2015. Khyentse Foundation awards grants and scholarships to individuals who have shown a strong commitment to Buddhist practice and study. This is a global, nonsectarian program that accepts applications from Buddhist teachers, students, scholars, translators, practitioners, retreatants, and others.

Our scholarships and grants program has grown exponentially over the past couple of years,” says Stephanie Suter, chair of the KF Scholarship Committee. “In the most recent application period we were able to award funding to 23 people, our biggest group of recipients yet. It has become a very competitive program and we received many qualified applications for a wide variety of study and practice programs and from a wide range of countries, including Mongolia, Bangladesh, Russia, Lithuania, Palestine, and Vietnam.

Seven committee members throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia work together to review the applications. KF awarded 31 scholarships, for a total of nearly $95,000, through this open application process. The committee accepts applications twice per year. The summer open application period is June 15 to July 15, 2015. The committee receives up to 100 applications per cycle. Most KF scholarship awards are in the range of US$500 to $4,000. We try to help as many qualified students as possible.

Many practitioners face financial difficulties when they wish to embark on long-term retreats, translation projects, or advanced degree studies. “I think our scholarships have the potential to change lives,” says Stephanie.

Requirements: An application form, downloadable from the KF website, and a 400-word essay. Applicants who have received a KF grant in the past use the Continuing Scholarship or Grant applications.

KF: A Modern-Day Patron: Since the days of the Buddha, practitioners have relied on donors for material support to pursue their spiritual paths. Following that tradition, KF's system of patronage connects our donors with practitioners. KF is helping to support Rene Vejvoda in three-year retreat at Karma Tekchen Yi Ong Ling Retreat Centre in Germany. He writes, “The ultimate goal of doing three-year retreat is to become a Buddha for the benefit of all sentient beings, to bring them all to Buddhahood. By practicing Buddhadharma and learning traditional rituals I will be able to uphold the lineage and its realization and help to spread Buddhism, particularly in the West. I am really happy to practice Buddhadharma in the form of a three-year retreat and with your support I will be able to continue practicing and helping others by doing so. Thank you very much for all your support! May it benefit to all sentient beings.”
